¡Feliz dia de la mujer!
¡Feliz día de la mujer!
Happy International Women’s Day!
I realized it has been months since I have posted, and can you blame me? The world went to shit after the election. November 5th was my 34th birthday and I went to vote to celebrate, and that was short lived. November 6th felt like the whole world crumbled and my mental health really took a hit. I swear I went through the 5 stages of grief. I took a mini break from social media because I was constantly being bombarded with the reminder of how so many let our country down. I allowed myself to be in my feelings, y la verdad no tenia de otra.
On top of that the holidays come with its own set of feelings. Needless to say, I needed to time for myself.
What I am really here to share about is the 3rd Annual Latina Heritage Day Brunch in Chicago. I recently joined a private practice in the Chicago land area that provides mental health consultation to wide range of organizations and providers and through this new opportunity I was invited to the Brunch. Has anyone been to the University Club in Chicago? Well, let me tell you that shit is fucking bougie. It reminded me of Hogwarts. Those spaces weren’t meant for women who look like me, and yet yesterday the room was filled with Latinas. Being in this space felt inspiring and empowering. We have carved out space for ourselves in these traditional white spaces and we are showing up for one another. Our society hates women, and were often pinned against each other so to be in a space where we can all share the spotlight is incredible. Tenemos que estar unidas ahora mas que nunca. This was one of the times I did not think about my weight, which was interesting to think about because everyone looked phenomenal. We all showed up in different shapes, sizes, and colors. I am excited to see where the year takes me with this new opportunity.
¡Hasta la proxima!
